The leaves contain trachoma, which can trigger itching of the skin during contact. Wrapping the penis with the leaf is believed to be able to increase its length and girth in significant amounts and in a relatively short time. No massage or additional apparatus is required. The method of this treatment is easy. Make a thin film of coconut oil on the leaf’s surface, wrap the penis with the leaf and cover it with a bandage. To avoid irritation, the bandage should be immediately removed if any hotness or itchiness occurs. The treatment should not be done every day. Do this once every two days at the most to give the penis chance to adjust to the change. With regular practice, Daun Bungkus Papua produces a larger penis, but it will also make the penile skin turn darker. In Indonesia itself, there have been no medical studies to prove the property of the leaf. Even experts are having problems to determine its Latin name. If not used carefully, Daun Bungkus Papua can irritate and trigger an infection of the penis.

2. Pasak Bumi (Eurycoma longifolia)

Eurycoma longifolia has different names in different parts of the country including bidara laut, babi kurus, and tongkat ali. It is a flowering plant indigenous to South East Asia, especially Indonesia and Malaysia. Pasak Bumi is a small evergreen tree that can grow up to 15 m (50 feet) in height. All parts of the plant taste bitter but have great medicinal properties. Although it functions as an anti-malarial and anti-diabetic herb as well, pasak bumi is mostly famous for its ability to enhance libido and enlarge the male vital organ. The plant’s root is used in traditional herbal supplements to increase testosterone levels in men. Your skin may be a lot more sensitive when pregnant, and you may be more sensitive to pain as well. Having your legs waxed, for example, may sound like a great idea – but turn out to be excruciatingly painful, even though it’s been relatively painless the last 10 times you’ve had it done.

The vast majority of pregnant women suffer from pregnancy-related physical complaints, such as backache, muscle tension, bloating and even foot cramps. While there are numerous medical spa treatments out there which can relieve such problems, some are not recommended for moms-to-be, and can even be downright dangerous to the unborn child.

If you feel like you could benefit from a spot of pregnancy pampering, don’t leave your health, and that of your baby’s, to chance. While the vast majority of medical spas are aware of what’s safe for expectant mothers, not all are. Remember, when it comes down to brass tacks, the responsibility for playing it safe is in your hands.

Steer Straight Ahead

Here is a list of treatments suitable for pregnant women:

* Facials. Facials that are not too invasive or don’t use harsh chemicals or peels are considered safe. Try an Elemis Spa facial or or one from your favorite skincare specialist, such as Decleor or Clarins. Products that are natural and organic without any strong chemicals are the best if you’re pregnant.

* Massages. Most massages are good for pregnancy, although some women may find it too uncomfortable to lie on their back. See if you can find a med spa that has a special massage table that has a bump cut out to fit your own bump! Be aware, however, that some massage oils are not recommended for use during pregnancy, including juniper, clary sage and even, surprisingly, peppermint.

* Hair removal involving waxing. You might find this more painful than normal as most women have an increased sensitivity to pain when pregnant (see below). But leg waxing, underarm waxing and even getting rid of that bristly bikini line is considered fine during pregnancy. You wouldn’t want your obstetrician to see you with hairy legs, would you? And try doing it yourself in your eighth month…

* Pedicure or manicure. A basic mani or pedi is fine. Some people, however, believe that having artificial nails or extensions can be dangerous to the unborn child because of the chemicals used.

* Reflexology. This form of foot massage can be of great relief to some women, but it’s important to let your reflexologist know you’re pregnant. Rule of thumb is not to have treatments during the first trimester, or if you have placenta previa (low-lying placenta) or hydroaminos, or an excess of amniotic fluid after 32 weeks’ gestation. Also not good for women at a risk of deep-vein thrombosis or pre-eclampsia, or those who have gone into pre-term labor.

* Acupuncture. This ancient needle art is widely used to treat morning sickness and make expectant mothers feel more comfortable overall. It is considered safe throughout the three trimesters but you should let your acupuncturist know you are pregnant nonetheless. Some acupuncturists like to wait past the first six weeks.

Steer Clear

Here are treatments NOT suitable for pregnant women:

* Hair removal involving bleaches or other kinds of hair removing cream. Not recommended as the chemicals can be absorbed into your body.

* Electrolysis. While most practitioners agree it’s safe to have this hair removal procedure carried out on your face during pregnancy, avoid having it done on your body – and especially the nipple area during the last few weeks! Remember, also, that you may have excess hair growth during pregnancy that will go away once the baby is born.

* Chemical peels and dermabrasion. It’s assumed that the strong chemicals used can enter your bloodstream, and cause harm to the unborn child.

* Tooth whitening/permanent make-up application. Nobody knows whether these are completely safe or not as not enough research has been carried out, so it’s best to avoid them.

* Saunas, steam rooms and very hot Jacuzzis. Stay away from the heat when you’re pregnant – these types of spa treatments may sound enticing but they’re thought to be potentially harmful to your unborn child, as they can raise your body temperature to dangerously high levels. Ditto for hot mud or seaweed wraps etc.

* Treatments involving any type of injections, such as dermal fillers etc. This are dangerous as there is a chance the substance can actually reach – and harm – the fetus.

* Laser treatments. Stay away from lasers while pregnant – just in case. Most spas that offer laser therapy of any kind do not accept pregnant women anyway.

* Tanning beds. Apart fro the risk of getting overheated; a melanoma can spread to the placenta, and thus affect your unborn child.

* Tattooing. As your skin will change during your pregnancy, once you’ve delivered you might not recognize the tattoo you got while pregnant! Also, the risk of unsterilized needles makes this a no-no.

* Hair dyes or chemical straightening techniques etc. Best to wait until you’ve given birth.

Top Tips

It’s also a great time to indulge in pampering treatments, especially as you won’t have time to take advantage of a quiet, peaceful spa once little Junior makes his or her entrance into the world, kicking and screaming his or her little head off. Yes, you are a product of your parent’s genes, and male pattern balding, or androgenic alopecia, is inherited.

Biology does not mean destiny these days and options are available for hair restoration products such as medical supplements – Minoxidil or Propecia; wigs and hair pieces and procedures such as hair transplants.

Unless you can change your parents, there is not much you can do about your genetic makeup. To set the record straight, here are 5 of the best balding myths, explaining causes for baldness.

If I massage my scalp, it may prevent hair loss.

The benefits of scalp massage have roots (pun intended) going back 5,000 years to Indian ayurvedic medicine.

Benefits include relieving head and neck tension and may increase the production of endorphins and serotonin, resulting in a feeling of well-being.

While scalp massage certainly feels good and is relaxing, there is no evidence it can prevent hair loss. However, there is no downside to massaging your scalp, so feel free to massage away.

Using hair care products can cause your hair to fall out or, conversely can stop hair loss.

Of course, over-processing with chemical straighteners, bleach or relaxers or overuse of flat irons can cause permanent damage and hair loss.

The good news is that both Minoxidil and Propecia have a good track record with preventing further hair loss and in some cases re-growing hair. Minoxidil, a topical ointment approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) can be purchased over the counter.

Propecia is available in pill form to men by prescription and should not be used or handled by women, as it has been known to cause birth defects.

If a man’s father has a full head of hair, then he will have the same.

Only if you are lucky, since scientists now believe hair destiny is a combination of genetic makeup from both parents.

Over-thinking or psychological problems can cause baldness.

Although the popular image in the media of bald men as more intellectual, (think: egghead) has no basis in fact, the stereotype persists.

Unless you suffer from Trichotillomania (compulsive hair plucking) – a rare, obsessive compulsive condition where a person plucks out their own hair, most psychological problems do not cause baldness. Trichotillomania affects 4% of the population, mostly women.

Your mother carries the balding gene from her father.

This may be part of the story. Researchers still don’t completely understand what causes male pattern balding. The sex chromosomes, X and or Y, control whether we develop as a male or female. Men have an X and a Y, women have two Xs.

The balding gene is carried on your X chromosome. A man gets one X chromosome from his mother, and a Y from his father.

Conversely, a woman gets one X from her mother and one X from her father; so look at your mother’s dad and see if he’s bald. If so, you have a 50% chance of getting the same bald gene.

However, scientists now believe that there may be several genes causing male pattern baldness but until now, no one has identified those other genes.

A new study, published this year in the Journal of Clinical Investigation, by George Cotsarelis, MD, Chair of the Department of Dermatology at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, has found that stem cells play a role in explaining what happens in a bald scalp.

He found that balding may arise from a problem with stem-cell activation rather than the numbers of stem cells in follicles.

Good news – these results may assist in developing future cell-based treatments for male pattern balding.

Knots in Your Back and Arm Pain Can Be Caused by the Same Muscles That Cause Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Sometimes numbness and pain in a hand and arm is due to an accident.  The pain may have come on suddenly rather than gradually like Carpal Tunnel Syndrome or Repetitive Stress Injury.  Regardless of the cause, pain and numbness in your hand and arm can respond to the same treatments because the same muscles are probably involved.

1.  There is a muscle on each side of your neck that causes knots in the back and pain in the hand and arm.  This is very often an overlooked cause of hand and pain symptoms.  Especially if you have “knots” in your back between the spine and shoulder blade OR if you aren’t responding to typical medical treatment, this may be the cause of your pain.

2.  If it’s hard to lift your arm, the deltoid, or cap, muscle on the outer side of your arm might be involved because that muscle can prevent the ability to lift if it’s unhappy.

3.  I would suggest that ALL of the muscles around your upper body, ribs, chest, back, neck and arm are involved because they’re all attached.

Breathing thoughtfully as fully in and out as you can (while you are in the most comfortable position you can get into) will “massage” the muscles around the ribs, inside and out.

Either ice or heat around the back, side, shoulder and chest will help those muscles relax.  Ice might probably be the treatment of choice around your neck.

Massage therapists who are trained to relieve pain by getting to the root cause of the pain can usually get relief for people with hand and arm symptoms.  Manual medicine (massage) actually gets into the muscles to relieve tightness and trigger points.  It’s not just ANY old tight muscle that should be massaged; it’s the muscles that are CAUSING the pain.  There’s a BIG difference.

Physical therapy will work best when all of the muscles are treated (massaged by hand) and “released” manually first and the tissues are normalized. 

Sometimes you can do a lot of massage yourself.  Sometimes a friend or family member will help you or you might see a professional massage therapist.  Tight muscles can be quite tender.  You may say, “That really hurts!” 

But, when your body says it is the right place and pressure you may say, “That really hurts; don’t stop; I can tell that’s a place that’s causing the problems.”

In additional, there is an acupuncture point called Tan-zhong point (CV 17), it is a very important point for enhancing mood. Tan-zhong point belongs to the conception vessel and is the midpoint between the centers of the breasts. It collects chest energy and provides energy for the heart. It has close relationship with our emotions. Whenever you feel sad, upset or angry, massage this point, it will calm you down and give you peaceful feelings.

Massage Tan-zhong point in a clock wise direction with 4 fingers closed or rub this point downwardly. 100 times or 2 to 3 minutes daily is an easy and good practice. There are many other benefits of massaging Tan-zhong point: improving breast health (especially for women); easing or curing asthma, cough, congested chest, fast heart beats etc.

But as we all know, without stretching post-workout, the muscles remain shortened and develop adhesions or contractures.

Adhesions result when a certain group of muscle fibres stay stuck together after contracting, not releasing and then acting as a group rather than as individual muscle bundles.

A contracture is a knot which develops along the muscle belly, usually, because of repeated muscle contracting and not relaxing at that location in the muscle belly.

The result is a developing knot of muscles with the presence of excessive proteins binding the muscle filaments together and trapping lactic acid and other proteins in a knot. The required enzymes necessary for the releasing of these muscles appears to be absent or in short supply at the knot.

Massage therapy will release both adhesions and contractures. When the muscles doesn’t want to release, the use of pranic healing techniques will rid the etheric or energy congestion at the muscle knot location and assist the muscles to release.

There is a direct connection between the etheric or energy body and the physical body. Healing the first body releases the physical body. The body has the ability to heal itself when blockages are removed. Pranic healing techniques can achieve this most of the time.

How does tight quadriceps and adductors affect ilio-psoas?

By adding external pelvic tension against the hip bone. The attachments of the quadriceps and adductors along the pubic bone and especially upper iliac ( hip bone) pull the iliac into an outflare exerting outward pulling strain on the iliac, straining the iliac, and iliopsoas, as a consequence.

The ilio-psoas is two muscles which are hip flexors and torso flexor. The psoas is combined with the quadratus lumborum at the back of the lumbar acting as your core flexor-extensor combination. Any imbalance will often result in low back pain.

What I have discovered in performing multiple treatments on the ilio-psoas is that there is always accompanied tightness in the adductors and quadriceps on the same side as a tight ilio-psoas. Both are innervated by the femoral nerve.

I have found that releasing the adductors and quadriceps first will result in a lessening of the tension on the iliacus, and ilio-psoas as a consequence.

I welcome massage therapists to attempt this treatment sequence and be amazed at how quickly the ilio-psoas relaxes after treating the adductors and quadriceps first.
